What payment method you use, its upto you. But for international online business, Paypal is a good payment method for you.
Why use PayPal?
PayPal offers a way to seamlessly proceed through checkout on your site, via one of the most widely used digital payment solutions. Your customers can rest assured they're using a secure, trusted, and reliable payment option when PayPal is available. It benefits those that don't pay with credit or debit card online. It also allows purchases worldwide, in over 100 currencies. Even when using another merchant service, it's good to have PayPal enabled as an additional option for your consumers.
Do customers need a Paypal account to pay with PayPal?
Customers do not need an account to complete their PayPal orders. You can actually setup within your PayPal account, the ability for them to checkout as a guest through PayPal.
How to Setup a PayPal Business Account.
For both payment options, PayPal Express and PayPal Standard, you will need to create a PayPal Business account. Follow the instructions below;
- To begin, go to PayPal's signup page here. Select Business Account and click Continue.
- Here, you will have 2 options, PayPal Payments Standard and PayPal Payments Pro. PayPal Payments Pro is also available in PinnacleCart. Click Select Standard.
- Fill out your business information on the next form.
- Select your business type, and answer the remaining fields.
- On the last page, you will just need to enter the last 4 digits of your SSN and your date of birth. This is completely secure.
Now, you should have arrived at your account page. The setup is complete! You should now have everything you need. All you need to setup PayPal Express or PayPal Standard in PinnacleCart is the email address associated with your PayPal account.
You can also setup with API Credentials, although you would only really need these if combining PayPal Express and Standard with PayPal Payments Pro. To get your API credentials;
- Go to the Profile drop-down at the top right.
- Select Profile and Settings.
- Click My Selling Tools.
- Click update next to API Access.
- Click Request API Credentials.
- Have Request API Signature selected and click Agree and Submit.
- Now, just click show next to Username, Password and/or Signature to see them and copy them down.
How to Enable PayPal Express.
As explained in the note at the top of this article, we recommend using PayPal Express in your cart. The reason for this is that the final transaction takes place on your site instead of within PayPal. The whole process for the customer is as follows.
- They add items into their cart.
- They Proceed to Checkout.
- On the Cart review page, they will see a Checkout with PayPal button. They can either choose to checkout through your site (and another gateway) with the Checkout button, or choose to Checkout through PayPal with the PayPal button.
- If they choose PayPal, then they are using PayPal Express. They will arrive at the PayPal login page, where they will login with their account.
- Within PayPal, they will choose their method of payment, i.e. Bank Account, Balance, Debit or Credit Card.
- Once selected, they will return to your site to choose a Shipping Address, a Shipping Method and finally complete the order.
Enabling PayPal Express is easy. Follow these steps;
- Go to Settings > Payments.
- Click the toggle button to turn it on, to the right of PayPal Express.
- Enter the Email Address associated with your PayPal Business Account, choose whether you want to offer BillMeLater, and click Activate.
And that's it! You can go in and add your API credentials, or edit other info. See instructions below;
Click Edit next to PayPal Express.
Click Edit next to Advanced Settings. Here, you can enter the API credentials you generated through PayPal in the instructions above. Of course, these aren't necessary as your email will suffice. You can also change the following;
- Mode - Choose Live if you're ready for transactions or choose Test if you'd like to test the functionality without actually processing orders.
- Transaction Type - Choose Sale to automatically capture funds, Authorization to make sure funds are available, but to capture later, or Order.

- Send Line Item Details - Choose whether or not to send product details to the PayPal login screen.

- Priority - Priority determines where the payment option is listed among other payment options you have have setup. The lower the number, the higher the priority, i.e. 1 is at the top.
Click Edit next to Change Colors. Here you can customize the look of PayPal when your customers arrive there. You can and a color code, or color name as well as upload your site logo.
Click Edit next to Other Settings. If you have an API Certificate as opposed to a Signature, you can upload it here.
How to Enable PayPal Standard
Note: Although it can be done, we do not recommend setting up PayPal Express and PayPal Standard at the same time. It is redundant and can create confusion for your customers.
PayPal Standard can also be enabled in PinnacleCart. The process for your customer purchasing through PayPal is as follows;
- They add items to their cart.
- They Proceed to Checkout and arrive at the One Page Checkout.
- They fill out their Billing and Shipping info.
- They choose PayPal as their payment option.
- They are redirected to PayPal where they login, choose a payment option, and process the order.
- They are directed to a Thank You page, where they are redirected to your site after 10 seconds or by clicking the link. If they close out their browser and do not return, your cart may assume their order was abandoned even though it was paid for.
To setup PayPal Standard as a payment option in your cart, follow these steps;
And that's it! You can now go in and edit other info. See instructions below;
Click Edit next to PayPal Payments Standard.
Click Edit next to Advanced Settings;
- Mode - Choose Live if you're ready for transactions or choose Test if you'd like to test the functionality without actually processing orders.
- Transaction Type - Choose Sale to automatically capture funds or Authorization to make sure funds are available, but to capture later.
